Rationale

Rationale
My brochure focuses around three of the coastal fortifications of the Eastern Suburbs. Each location in my brochure is defined and coded by the emotive qualities felt at the locations. Fort Dorset felt dangerous there fore I used triangles and red. Palmer Head felt structured and sterile so I used squares and rectangles and tan. Fort Ballance felt overgrown and unkempt a so I used green and circular patterns. I wanted my brochure to communicate the fortifications in a sophisticated way, I achieved this through hierarchy and visual flow.

I made a key with symbols to act as visual queues. I’ve used a linear progression to guide the audience across the spreads. I used my photographs as the focal point to give the audience a preview of the location. I the fonts used univers and uni sans as I felt it went well with the bold style showing reference to fonts used for the army and police.

I learnt that my process starts quite far off the original product and I find refining my ideas to something succinct and minimalistic quite troubling.
